Bilingual Special Education
Option A: If you hold an early childhood (04), elementary (03), or high school (09) certificate and have ESL or bilingual approval or endorsement, you need the following three courses:
1. Characteristics of Learning Disabilities
2. Assessment of Monolingual and Limited English Proficient Children with Disabilities
3. Instructional Methods for Students with Learning Disabilities
Option B: If you hold a Special Education Certificate, you need the following courses:
1. Theoretical Foundations of Bilingual/ESL Special Education
2. Assessment for Monolingual and Limited English Proficient Children with Disabilities
3. Curricular and Behavioral Considerations for Limited English Proficient Learners

You can obtain ISBE Form 73-67, Request for Bilingual Special Education Approval, from the Certification Office in Springfield or the Illinois Resource Center.
